Races
When it was released in 1995, the Dragon Dice game featured only four races: Coral Elves, Goblins, Dwarfs and Lava Elves. Now the game includes nine other races: Feral, Amazons, Swamp Stalkers, Dragon Kin, Scalders, Undead, Treefolk, Firewalkers and Frostwings. The races you choose in order to create your army can significantly improve your chances of winning the game.
Choose your races based on what you want out of your army. For instance, the Feral race has the special ability to recruit one unit for the army before every turn. They also have the most maneuverability of any of the races in Dragon Dice, making them versatile in nearly any terrain. However, Feral creatures have the lowest magic of any of the races, and they are extremely weak when it comes to long-range attacks.
It stands to reason, then, that if you decide to include the Feral race as a significant part of your army, you must balance it out with other races that will make up for its weak points. The website of SFR, the company that produces Dragon Dice, gives recommendations for balancing an army that is heavy in each race. For instance, the website suggests that you balance your Feral army with magical creatures for protection (such as Dwarfs) and for offense (such as Firewalkers). Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of each race and balancing them in your army can be the perfect strategy for beating your opponent.
Reserves
The reserve army can be an extremely valuable asset in a game of Dragon Dice. Each player has three armies on the board at once, one of these being the reserve. A player can reinforce an advancing army, or withdraw units from an army into reserve, at the end of his turn. This is the only way to move individual units from one area of the gaming zone to another.
Your reserve army cannot be directly attacked, but can be harmed by magic. Keep a close eye on your reserve army, and use it to your best advantage. If you are planning a big push with one army, reinforce it strongly from your reserves. On the other hand, if one of your armies is in a great position to take a territory, remove some of the forces to reserve so that you have them if you need them for your other army. Taking advantage of your reserve units can provide you with a steady supply of healthy units right when you need them.
