Children's Games Played in the Dark

Despite all of the advances in games over the past few years, the most visible of which are the dozens of different video game consoles, some games that children play are still very simple. All you need is a group of kids and a willingness to play. Care should be taken before playing games in the dark that there are as few dangers as possible, and also that no one playing the game has a fear of the dark.
  1. Sardines

    • Sardines, which is usually played in the dark, is a variant of the classic children's game hide and go seek. This game is different in the sense that only the person who is "it" will be hiding. All of the other players will close their eyes and count, while the one other player hides. The seekers will search for the person who's "it," and every time he's found, the person who found him must hide in the same place. The game is over when the last seeker finds everyone, and the last person is considered to be the new "it."

    Googala Monster

    • This game requires at least two people, but a bigger group is always more fun. One player is selected to be the googala monster, and that person must wear a blanket over her head. The blanket should be fairly large so that more than one person will be able to fit underneath it. When the game begins, all the players will try and sneak around in the dark and avoid the googala monster. When the monster catches someone, that person gets under the blanket to make the googala monster harder to coordinate and a little bit bigger. The game is won by the last person who is left uncaptured by the googala monster.

    Murder in the Dark

    • This is a game that's a twist on murder mysteries. A sheet of paper is torn up into enough strips so that every player can have one. Someone must write the letter D on one of the strips and the letter X on another one of the strips. The rest of the strips are left blank. The strips are mixed up in a bowl or hat, and each person takes one strip and keeps it hidden. The person who gets the D is the detective. The detective must go to the light switch and turn it off. The person with the X is the murderer. He must sneak up behind someone and whisper in her ear "you're dead." The murdered person should scream out and drop to the ground. When the detective hears the scream, he turns the light on. The detective then questions everyone in the room. They must answer truthfully, except for the murderer, who may lie. The detective then accuses someone, and if the accused is the murderer, then he must admit it. If the detective's first guess is wrong, then he may have one more before the game is declared over.
