Doom
Doom was a game that came after Castle Wolfenstein. Castle Wolfenstein was a game that started the first person shooter series. Doom was a game that featured a military man who was armed with a knife, gun and even a rocket launcher at times. The goal of the game is to battle the aliens and creatures who were threatening the livelihood and human existence. Doom went on to feature other series games, and it launched the popularity of other first person shooter games like Quake, Duke Nukem and Hexen. Doom was one of the first popular MS-DOS games.
Quake
Similar to Doom, Quake was a first person shooter game that featured a man who launched a battle against monsters including aliens, zombies and vampires. The popularity of Quake was the gaming engine. Quake's gaming engine was designed by one designer, which is unusual for most games. The engine was purchased by other gaming designers as a method for creating other first person shooters. Quake also had Quake Arena, which was a networking game where gamers could battle against each other on the Internet.
Myst
Myst was different than Quake and Doom. Myst was more of a role playing game. The game featured a storyline that was a mystery. Gamers were required to solve puzzles and walk through the game figuring out the story as the puzzles were solved. Many gamers complained that Myst required the use of a gaming guide, which was a booklet that gave the answers for puzzles. Myst went on to create series such as Raven, Myst III, IV and V. Myst was known for its advanced graphics that were crisp and created a realistic environment for players.
