MASH
A classic pencil and paper game, MASH begins by writing down five names, five cars, five jobs, five cities and the word MASH at the top of the sheet. Then the player whose fortune is being read names their lucky number. Beginning on M, the fortuneteller counts through every letter in MASH and then every item from the lists. Every time you reach the lucky number, you eliminate the item you are on and then begin the count anew. Keep going until you have one letter in MASH left and one item from each list. So what does MASH mean? It determines in what condition you'll live, whether a mansion, apartment, shack or house.
Candle Divining
This fun fortune telling game is especially appropriate around Halloween. Light three candles in front of the person whose fortune is to be read. Make sure one candle is orange, one green and one red. Blindfold the person and shuffle the lit candles around in front of him. When the fortune receiver is ready, she simply blows at the candles. The first one to be snuffed indicates what's in that player's immediate future. Orange means a trip, green means money and red indicates some serious romance will show up in the near future.
Paper Bag Fortunes
A fun and simple way to craft future scenarios for participants is to pick out a few future events you want to learn about. Perhaps you want to know what kind of pet you own, the number of countries you'll visit and how old you'll live. Hand each participant four note cards, one of which will have their name while they offer one solution to each of three criteria on the three other cards. Then take four paper bags and put all of the name note cards in one, all of the pet note cards in another and so on. Draw a name from the name paper bag. That person will then draw their future from the other three bags. This game is lots of fun because it gives you specific answers, and people often come up with creative possibilities.
