How to Make Cornhole Scoreboards

Whether you're at a tailgate party or in your own backyard, Cornhole is a great outdoor game for all ages. Many people build their own game boards but it is also possible to make a scoreboard from scratch. For those who do not want to go out and buy a professionally made scoreboard, here are instructions for building your own.

Things You'll Need

  • One 4 1/2x40 1/2-inch piece of 3/4-inch plywood
  • Sandpaper
  • Sanding sealer
  • Wood glue
  • Power drill
  • Two golf tees
  • Four 2x2 wood planks, 6 inches long
  • Four 2x2 wood planks, 4 inches long
  • One 2x2 wood plank, 45 inches long
  • Wood screws
  • Screwdriver
  • 21 vinyl decals (numerals 1-21)

Instructions

    • 1

Sand the plywood piece and seal it. Then glue the numeral decals with number 1 at the top and 21 at the bottom, in ascending order from top to bottom. Leave 1/2 inch between the numbers (vertically). Make sure to center the numbers horizontally so they are in the middle of the plywood.

    • 2

Drill golf-tee-sized holes next to the numbers. Drill one hole on each side of the number, halfway down the number. You should end up with 42 holes--two vertical rows of 21 on each side of the numbers. Each hole should be able to fit a golf tee without the tee falling out.

    • 3

Take the four 6-inch 2x2s and arrange them to make the base. Place them flush to the ground longways. Take one of the other 2x2 pieces and place it vertically, perpendicular to the ground. Then, wrap the four other pieces around the vertical piece, so that when you remove the vertical piece there will be an empty 2x2 square in the middle, surrounded by four planks extending in four directions. Screw the four planks together so they remain in this position.

    • 4

Place the four 4-inch 2x2s on top of the base you created in the previous step. Stack them on top of the first four so that they wrap around the empty 2x2 square, leaving the empty square in the middle empty. Screw these four into the first four wood planks so that you have an empty 2x2 square that is now 4 inches deep. This is where you will end up sticking the scoreboard.

    • 5

Screw the 45-inch 2x2 into the plywood with the numbers on it. Make one end of the plank flush with the top of the plywood piece, in the middle of the piece horizontally. The top of the plank will be flush with the end of the plywood with the numeral 1 on it. The other end of the plank will stick out of the bottom end of the plywood, below the 21. Stick the 2x2/scoreboard combination into the base vertically. If needed, screw it to the base for stability. It should look like a vertical scoreboard, with 1 at the top and 21 at the bottom. The plane of the scoreboard will be perpendicular to the plane of the base.
