How to Make Your Own Video Game Character Avatar

Avatars are pictures or drawings used to represent yourself in cyberspace. They are a great way of virtually introducing your interests to others. The themes may range from flowers to history. Generally, avatars reflect your personality, which give those who cannot see you in person a clearer idea about your personality. If video games are your passion, you can choose a video game character to be your representative image.

  Research other avatars to develop a strong idea of the common design and quality. You might notice avatars are generally simplified as most programs as of 2009 require that they remain quite small.

  Choose your favorite video game character. Pick one that is able to be modified or enhanced. Decide whether your avatar character will represent you or hide your identity.

  Print images of the character and sketch the character's full body to develop a strong idea of how to draw it.

  Decide what parts of the avatar you will emphasize. Will you focus on the face? A distinctive fist? Decorative clothing your character wears?

  Create a drawing of the chosen area on sketch paper and make the desired modifications to the selected image. Add additional imagery or include text if desired.

  Scan the drawing into the computer and use photoshop (or another image-editing program) to modify the drawing.

  Add color and increase the contrast or brightness for added effect. Research photoshop tutorials to better use these programs.

  Save your image as a small .jpg and subsequently upload it to the appropriate user page.
