How to Build a Bean Bag Game

Beanbag games are fun for all ages. With a few simple tools and a bit of creativity, make beanbag games on your own. There are several variations of beanbag games, but most games involve tossing a beanbag toward a hole. The most popular beanbag game is cornhole, played nationwide from informal backyard gatherings to formal league tournaments. Once you have the proper tools and materials, constructing a cornhole set is relatively easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the wood. Use the circular saw to cut the large plywood sheet in half.

    • 2

Use the hole saw to drill a 6-inch hole at the top of the board: it should be 12 inches from each side and nine inches from the top of the board.

    • 3

Cut the 2x4s down to size to make the frame and the legs. You will need four 4-inch pieces, four 21-inch pieces and four 11-5/8-inch pieces.

    • 4

Make the frame. Set all 2x4's on the long side. Take two of the 4-foot planks and lay them about two feet apart. Place two of the 21-inch pieces inside those planks, with one at the top and one at the bottom. Bring the 4-foot planks together until they are flush with the 21-inch planks, and use the drywall screws to secure them into place. This large rectangle will serve as the frame. Repeat this process for the second playing board.

    • 5

Assemble the playing board. Take one frame and lay it on the ground. Place the large 2x4 sheet over the frame; it should fit exactly. When everything is lined up, screw the sheet into place with three screws on each side of the sheet and two screws at the top and bottom. Repeat for the second frame.

    • 6

Add the legs. The board should rest at a 45-degree angle when finished, so you must assemble the legs to accommodate the angle. Attach a hinge to the end of each remaining 2x4. Place it on the underside of the top of the board and screw it into the 2x4 at the top of the board so when the hinge is folded, the leg will rest inside of the platform.

    • 7

Finish the board. Sand the board thoroughly and make sure no screw is protruding from the surface of the board. Leave the board as it is for casual play, or calk the screw holes and paint with latex paint for league play.
