Double Word Scramble
Write a word list to be used in the scramble. All the words should fit a theme, such as seasons; sports team and players; individual sports; holidays, such as Martin Luther King or Columbus Day; aspects of science; or place names.
Jumble the letters of each word in list form. Provide square blanks for each corresponding letter adjacent to the jumbled word. A simplified example would be RINBG ---------- (bring).
Place a circle inside one letter square in each scrambled word. This letter will be used in the theme word once the first puzzle is finished. For example, assign a circle to the letter R square in the above word, BRING. It will look like this: -----------.
Use the circled letters of the first puzzle to decipher the second puzzle. Rearrange the letters to form a word, which is the puzzle's overall theme. An example theme word would be YHBTARDI ---------------- (BIRTHDAY).
Scramble Quotes
Look for a famous quote online at such sites as famousquotes.com or famousquotesandauthors.com or in reference books, such as "Quotable Quotes" and "The Wise and Witty Quote Book." Write the quote on paper, along with its author.
Scramble each word and leave spaces in between. Gamers will need to rearrange the grouping of letters in each word to form the quote.
Give a clue to decipher the author or related topic of the quote. For example, use the quote, "Every artist was first an amateur." The quote is scrambled as follows: YVREE TTSAIA SWA TSFRI NA TRUAAEM _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. The clue would be: Which famous American essayist and poet wrote this quote? Scramble the poet's name to solve the puzzle: HLARP DWALO NREMOES _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.
