Paint
Clear the room and lay down a floor covering.
Decide on paint colors. There are three main color schemes to choose from: monochromatic, complementary and analogous. Monochromatic and analogous schemes consist of shades of a single color and colors that lie next to each other on the color wheel. This will result in a calmer room. A complimentary color scheme consists of colors from opposite sides of the color wheel. This will result in a room that is more stimulating and has more interest. This scheme is most likely what you will want for a teen game room. Consult with your teenagers to determine what colors they like.
Purchase the paint. According to Dummies.com, a gallon of paint will cover about 350 square feet. You will need to measure the walls to determine how many square feet you will be covering. Consult knowledgeable employees at the hardware store for advice about amount and type of paint to purchase.
Room Layout
Measure the room. You will need to consider the size and shape of the room to determine what items will fit.
Place items in the room for a lounge area. A good layout for a game room has specific, designated areas. Teenagers will enjoy having an area with a comfy couch, chairs, a TV, DVD player and video games.
Place items in the room for a game area. Teenagers enjoy table games such as pool, foosball, ping-pong and air hockey.
Add a table and chairs. This will allow space for board games and card games.
Include a mini-refrigerator. If space allows, adding cabinetry, an under-the-counter refrigerator and microwave is a great addition to a teen game room. They won't have to leave the action to get a drink or snack.
