How to Make a Paper Box to Test IQ

Logic puzzles are a great way to keep your brain in shape and test your intelligence. However, intelligence has many components that all need training to improve. Many types of these puzzles can work with memory, math and linguistics. A very important and oft forgotten aspect is visual/spacial training. Just folding this puzzle box is a challenge. Most of our reality and thought is derived by how we "see" the world after all.

Instructions

  1. Surfaces

    • 1

Fold the paper in half to form a crease, then unfold.

    • 2

Fold the top and bottom to the center crease.

    • 3

From here fold the top right corner to the center of the rectangle, and the lower left to the center to form a diamond. Unfold to the rectangle.

    • 4

On each side there should be to small triangles formed on the inner flaps, fold them backwards to under the flaps.

    • 5

Tuck the larger triangles under the opposing sides flaps. This may take some effort, but you'll be back to a diamond shape when done.

    • 6

Flip it upside down and fold the corners into a square. You will need to make 96 of these surfaces.

    Cubes

    • 7

Take 6 of the surfaces from above. You'll start with just 2 and add on more until all six form a cube.

    • 8

Starting with 2 pieces, fold the triangle edge of 1 into one of the pockets in the other piece's back.

    • 9

Bend the edge over along the square crease and fold the other piece's edge into the square.

    • 10

Add the remaining pieces and the box should rapidly take the shape of a cube.

    Puzzle

    • 11

Take three cubes and line them up corner to corner.

    • 12

On each corner of the cubes there should be a flap and a pouch, take each cube's flap out, and put it into the other cube's pouch. They should be connected now. You may need to use glue to keep them connected. Repeat this for another three cubes.

    • 13

Connect the middle cubes together in the same manner. You should be able to press them flat together in a six pack.

    • 14

Connect the edges of 2 cubes into their own rows of three, going upwards.

    • 15

This leaves 1 side of the puzzle box finished and all 8 edge cubes finished. Add the remaining edges to form finished box, following the above pattern steps.
