Roll-Up Puzzle Mat Instructions

Taking the time to put together a puzzle can be a rewarding activity. However, the amount of space a puzzle in progress takes up makes for a seriously cluttered table or floor. You can fix this problem by making a roll-up puzzle mat. It only takes a few materials and basic sewing skills to put together. So the next puzzle you make can be rolled up in the mat when not in use and unfurled when it's time for jigsaw fun.

Things You'll Need

  • 36-inch by 72-inch felt
  • Thread
  • 28-inch by 32-inch gift wrap roll
  • Sewing machine
  • Straight pins
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a rectangle out of the craft felt with your scissors, mimicking the dimensions of the gift wrap roller. Make sure one side is 28 inches long or the width of the gift wrap roller and the other is 33 inches long or however wide the roller is plus five inches.

    • 2

Cut out two more smaller rectangles from the craft felt that measure 4 inches by 5 inches.

    • 3

Line up the gift wrap roller on the end of the fabric that measures 28 inches. Make a pocket by rolling the felt over the roller. Pin in place before removing the roller.

    • 4

Sew a seam where the end of the felt touches the rest of the fabric. This will secure the pocket.

    • 5

Place the small rectangles you cut out on the ends of the gift wrap roller. Trim them to fit before hot gluing them in place. Tuck the loose ends inside the roller and glue in place.

    • 6

Slide the gift wrap roller inside the pocket. Roll up the felt around the roller. Now you're ready to put a puzzle together and store it.
