What Can I Use As a Puzzle Mat?

Puzzle mats are convenient tools for people working on a jigsaw puzzle. When done working on the puzzle for the day, you can just roll up the mat to store the puzzle until the next session. This enables you to use your workspace for other purposes without losing your work on the puzzle.

Function
- Puzzle mats are made of thin, flexible material that provide a layer between jigsaw puzzle pieces and the work surface. With a fuzzy side facing up, mats keep the pieces from sliding.
Commercial mats
- Puzzle mats of varying sizes and materials can be purchased in the game section of local superstores or craft stores and online.
Tablecloths
- A picnic tablecloth can be used as a makeshift puzzle mat. Simply place the smooth side face down and the fuzzy side face up.
Fabric
- Go to the fabric store and purchase a yard or two of vinyl or felt. Take the material home and cut it to the desired size.
Fasteners
- Regardless of option chosen, use ribbon, Velcro straps or rubber bands to keep the mat rolled up when not in use.
