Games to Teach Kids About Vices & Virtues

Children learn best when they are active. Playing games gives them the activity they crave and teaches them an underlying message when their minds are most open. So if you see them glassy-eyed and yawning when they are sitting in circle time listening to a list of virtues, have them stand up and get ready to play.
  1. Bingo

    • You can make up bingo cards with clip art of virtues. Give each child bingo cards and markers. Have cards with the same clip arts on the bingo cards. Call out the cards. The person with one row covered with markers first wins the game.

    Matching Vices and Virtues

    • You can do a matching game in two ways. You can have each child match up virtues or match up a vice with the opposite virtue. For example, someone steals from a store matches up with someone returning a found wallet. Print out cards with clip arts that express a vice or virtue. The person who can make the most matches wins the game.

"How Many Can You Name" Game

    • If you have a large group of children playing the game, break them up into groups. Have each group come up with as many virtues as possible. Have each group name all their virtues and mark off the ones that another group has named. The group that has the most virtues -- that no one else has come up with -- wins the game.

    Virtue Vice Role Play Game

    • Split up the children into groups. Tell each group whether they will role-play a vice or virtue. Then each group will have a turn to demonstrate one or the other. The other groups must decide if it is a vice or virtue.
