How to Make Letters in Shadows

Shadow puppetry can be a fun rainy-day activity. You can make basic animal shapes by holding up your fingers and hands in certain ways; you can also hold up objects to cast funny shadows for your productions. Spell out words and names by using shapes of the letters held in front of the light. Spell out the name of the play and cast member's names by creating outlines of the letters.

Instructions

    • 1

Use lettering stencils to draw the letters on tracing paper. Cut out the tracing paper letters.

    • 2

Trace the outlines onto sheets of card stock. Cut out the letters.

    • 3

Glue a craft stick to each individual letter so you can hold it up in front of a light. Let the glue dry completely.

    • 4

Turn out all the lights in the room. Turn on the flashlight, lantern or other light source you will be using for the shadow play.

    • 5

Hold the letters up in front of the light source to cast the shadow of the letters on the wall where the shadow play performance is being held.
