Doodle Games for Kids

Games centered on doodling can help a child develop his creativity and artistic skills in a low-pressure context. Doodling is an inherently playful and relaxed activity, freeing doodlers to stumble upon beauty without having to force it or work hard for quality. Playing doodling games also strengthens lateral thinking and problem-solving capabilities by helping the player see his doodles in new ways.
  1. Finish the Doodle

    • This game focuses on creative collaboration between two players. The first player draws a small squiggle, shape or line. The next player draws something around it to turn it into a recognizable object or image. For example, if the first player draws a circle, the second player may draw a face around it, using the circle as a nose or open mouth, or draw a seal balancing the circle on its nose like a ball. When the second player is done, the players switch places.

    Connect the Doodles

    • This is a game for multiple players. It can extend to last as long as the players desire. All the players draw small doodles on a single sheet of paper. The doodles can be simple cartoon drawings, incomplete representations of known objects or abstract images. When everyone is done, the players rotate the paper and begin extending each others' doodles. Every few minutes, rotate the paper again and continue the work left off by the person before you. In time the doodles will begin to connect into one large, imaginative picture.

    Doodlephone

    • This game is inspired by the classic party game Telephone. Start with a stack of small squares of paper, such as sticky notes or index cards cut in half. The first player has 10 seconds to draw a doodle on a piece of paper, which he then passes to the second player. She has 10 seconds to copy the doodle onto a new piece of paper, which she then passes to the third. Continue copying and passing until everyone has had a turn or someone is tired of the game. Compare the final doodle to the original doodle.

    Doodle Battle

    • In this game, players create an escalating face-off of doodles in a battle for ultimate victory. The first player, called the defender, draws a castle, secret base, lady love or other structure, person or item worth defending. The second player, the aggressor, then doodles a simple object with which he will attack, such as a slingshot or pointed stick. The defender doodles a defense, such as a shield or thick pillow. The aggressor escalates with an object that can overcome the defense. Continue back and forth until you exhaust the imagination or artistic talent of one of the players.
