How to Make a Kid's Fishing Game With Foam Board

Whether looking for party game, or just trying to amuse one child on a rainy day, an indoor fishing game is always a hit with children. Make your own fish out of foam board, and a fishing pole out of other materials found around the house. Kids will have fun reeling them in by themselves or with a friend.

Things You'll Need

  • Cardboard
  • 2 sheets foam craft board
  • 2-foot stick, wooden dowel, or ruler
  • String or yarn
  • Magnet
  • Metal paper clips

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a simple fish shape on a piece of cardboard. An empty cereal box works well for this task. This will be your template for making the fish for the game. Trace the template onto foam craft board 10 to 20 times and cut them out.

    • 2

Tie a piece of string about 2 feet long onto one end of the stick and tie a magnet onto the other side of the string. A horseshoe-shaped magnet works well to stay tied on the string. This will be the fishing pole

    • 3

Attach a paper clip to the fish's mouth. Kaboose suggests gently opening a paper clip to poke it through the mouth area of the fish. Pull the fish all the way through the paper clip until it is secured in the middle of the paper clip.

Check the strength of the magnet. Now that the paper clip is attached to the fish, see if you can catch a fish with the stick and magnet. All Kids Network states that if the magnet will not pull up a fish, find a stronger magnet and keep testing until you find one that works.
