How to Make a Tent in a Small Room

Despite frightful outside weather, you can still have a delightful camping experience right at home. Construct your own indoor campsite using simple household materials; get the kids involved in the design and construction process for extra creativity and entertainment value. Even if you don't have much space to pitch a tent, you can easily brainstorm and create a design that will fit a small space. Whatever your concerns are, be they inclement weather, mosquitoes or bears, this inexpensive activity is an ideal alternative to camping in the great outdoors.

Instructions

    • 1

Place two chairs of equal sizes back to back in the small room where you want to set up your tent. Leave some space between the chairs, about the length of a bed sheet.

    • 2

Roll out some twine against the length between the two chairs and cut a piece that is long enough to reach. Tie the ends of the string to the center of the backs of the chairs.

    • 3

Drape a flat bed sheet, quilt or blanket over the twine. Flare the sheets on either side to create a triangular tent shape. Anchor each side down with books or other weighted household objects. Place clothespins over the top of the sheet to hold it in place on the twine.

    • 4

Fill in the open spaces with pillows to create an enclosed tent. Leave an opening as an entryway or use an item, like a cardboard box with the bottom cut out, to create a tunnel entrance.
