Kindergarten Games With an Ocean Theme

Teach your kindergartners about the deep blue sea with entertaining ocean games. Many young children find the ocean and its sea creatures intriguing. Games allow the children to learn about the ocean while having fun at the same time. Entice your students to try their best by awarding small prizes like ocean-themed stickers, notepads, pencils and temporary tattoos to game winners.
  1. Online Games

    • Kaboose.com offers a variety of ocean-themed games for children to play. In a game called Tuna Trapper, your kindergartners must drop a net to trap tuna in the ocean. They must avoid the endangered whales and jellyfish at the same time. A game of Fishin̵7; Fun allows the children to catch a variety of fish from the ocean, while selecting their own bait. Other online activities on the website include puzzles, quizzes and an arcade of ocean games.

    Tossing Games

    • Make a basic tossing game by scattering beach pails on the ground. Mark a line about 5 feet from the pails for the students to line up. Give each student five plastic ocean creatures. Ocean creatures, such as fish, crabs, whales and sharks, are available at most toy stores. Have the children try to toss the animals into the beach pails. The child who makes the most ocean creatures into the pails wins the game. Print a picture of an octopus or any sea creature and tape it to the bottom of a box. Cut out the mouth and lean the box against a wall. Have the children try to toss beanbags into the mouth of the sea creature. The child who makes the most wins the game.

    Memory Games

    • Print pictures of different ocean creatures, two of each. Tape the pictures to index cards and have the children play a game of memory. Place the cards face down on a table and have one student flip over two pictures. If they match, they can keep the pair and go again. If not, the turn moves to another player. The student with the most matches at the end of the game wins. Another idea is to tape some of the pictures on a board. Have the students look at the pictures. Tell them to close their eyes and look down, while you remove one picture. When you tell them to look at the pictures, the first student to tell you which sea creature is missing from the board wins the game.

    Educational Games

    • Teach the kindergartners colors, letters and numbers with a prize game. Print pictures of different-colored fish and scatter around the floor. Play music and have the children walk around the room. When the music stops, they must stand on a fish. Call out a color and the student standing on that color wins a small prize. Alternatively, write numbers or letters on the fish. Call out a number or letter to select the winner.
