Games or Activities Using Cheerios

Cheerios lend themselves to a variety of fun and educational games. From counting to sorting to silly games, you can create activities that will keep children busy for hours of excitement. Aside from fun, children can build fine motor skills while participating in activities with Cheerios. A box of Cheerios and a few ideas are all you need to get started.
  1. Educational Activities

    • Teach young children how to sort and count using a box of Cheerios. Write the numbers 1 through 10 on small cups and place them on a table. Have the children put the corresponding number of Cheerios into each cup. Paint the Cheerios with nail polish or tempura paint and allow them to dry overnight. Be sure to remind the children not to put the Cheerios in or around their mouth. Have the children sort the Cheerios by color. Make either of these activities into games by having two children race to see who can do it in the fastest amount of time.

    Online Activities

    • The Cheerios website offers online games for children to play in the Cheerios playroom. Music Maker features lined-up Cheerios that children can click on to make different musical notes. The Music Maker also teaches the children which notes to click to make certain songs, like Row Row Row Your Boat. In the online game Beeline, children can collect a flower̵7;s pollen to take to the bee̵7;s hive. Then they help the bee find the honey in the hive and the bowl of Cheerios.

    Games

    • Divide the children into teams of two and give one player a cup of Cheerios. Have the other player cover his face with butter. When you say ̶0;Go,̶1; the partners must toss Cheerios at their partner's faces and try to get them to stick. Players can wear goggles to cover their eyes. The player who has the most Cheerios stuck to his face after two minutes wins the game. Children can also play this game individually by seeing how many Cheerios they can stick to their own faces.

    Other Activities

    • Other activities include coloring, a tossing game and a noodle game. Children can use the colored Cheerios to color a picture by gluing them on a coloring page. For a tossing game, place several pails on the ground and have children toss Cheerios into the buckets. The player who makes the most Cheerios in the buckets wins the game. Give each player an uncooked spaghetti noodle and a cup of Cheerios. Have the children place the noodle in their mouth. When you say ̶0;Go,̶1; they must start placing as many Cheerios as they can on the noodle. The first player to fill up the noodle with Cheerios wins the game.
