How to Make a Big Tent With Sheet

Tents aren't just for outside camping. With just a few household items, you can make a tent inside your house in which you can have privacy on your own or invite friends into to have fun. Making tents is a great rainy day activity and the best part is, the tent only takes a few minutes to prepare and cleans up easily when you are done playing in it. Kids of all ages will especially enjoy making tents and the activity is something they can do with minimal help.

Things You'll Need

  • One or more sheets
  • Mop or broom
  • At least 4 chairs, couches, tables or other furniture
  • Safety pins (if using more than one sheet)

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure your sheet is large enough. If you do not have one really large sheet, you can use several sheets. Safety pin the sheets together to create one very large sheet. If you know how to sew and have the time, you can stitch the sheets together instead.

Arrange the four pieces of furniture in square. Drape the sheet over all of the furniture. Tuck the edges of the sheet under the legs of the chairs or furniture to secure the sheet there. Make sure to leave plenty of extra material available so that the sheet can be pulled up in the middle to create a high ceiling for the tent. You may need to weigh the furniture down if it is lightweight; you can do this by stacking books, toys or many newspapers on top of the furniture.

Use a long pole such as a mop or a broom and place it underneath the sheet to prop it up and create a higher ceiling. Alternatively, if you have enough material, you may be able to safety pin a string to the center of the sheet and affix the end of the string to the ceiling of the room in which you are building the tent. This will create more room inside the tent.
