Indoor Snow Activities
Bring the snow indoors for a few quick activities before it melts. Fill a small plastic swimming pool with snow and use sand toys to build snow castles. Another idea is to make your own indoor snowman in the plastic pool. Use chocolate cookies to make the eyes, mouth and buttons on the snowman. Add a hat, scarf and carrot nose. Make snow ice cream by bringing three cups of fluffy snow inside in a bowl. Add 2 tbsp. of milk, 1 tsp. vanilla and 1/4 cup of sugar to the snow. Mix well and serve. Alternatively, make candy snow ice cream by mixing peppermints, crushed candy bars or small candy pieces in the ice cream.
Herb Gardens
Make an herb garden using seed packs of herbs like mint, sage, thyme and oregano. Mix the seeds in soil in a small pot and water. Place the "herb garden" in a window for sunlight. For added decoration, make small signs using toothpicks and construction paper to label each herb. After the herbs start growing, use the fresh herbs to cook. You can also use peat cups in small terra cotta pots instead of using one large pot. Decorate the pots using paint and a waterproof sealer.
Art Activities
Make snowflakes using a bottle of glue and wax paper to commemorate the occasion. Draw a snowflake on wax paper and allow it to dry overnight. Peel the snowflake off and attach fishing line to the snowflake to hang it up. Another idea is to dig out old or new pictures and create a scrapbook. Other art activities include making pom-pom animals or snow monsters using craft pom-poms, pipe cleaners and craft foam. Make piggy banks using old cans and craft supplies like construction paper, glue, stickers and scissors. Write your child's name on the can using a glitter or paint pen.
Games
Play a variety of indoor games like hide-and-seek and board games. Get out some excess energy by playing dance, bowling and golf games on a video game console. Have a contest for your children to see who can fold their laundry in the fastest amount of time. Other games include singing contests, a game of "I spy", card games, charades and coloring contests.
