Function
Developed for children between the ages of 3 and 12, JumpStart allows kids to register online and create their own unique character with fully customizable appearance, hair, clothes and accessories. Players create their own houses and even pets, forging their own online existence. Kids then venture out into the JumpStart 3D environment to explore the world, play games and accomplish educational tasks, earning coins for successful performances. Players can then cash in the coins to purchase items for their digital counterpart, allowing for more detailed customization.
Features
JumpStart includes a buddy system that enables kids to explore the 3D world with friends, classmates and siblings. However, online safety is a top priority. Kids can interact only with buddies who know the player's personal codes, such as pre-approved phrases or passwords. All conversations consist of stock phrases chosen from a menu, making it impossible for children to encounter anything harmful or for kids to be rude to one another.
Locations
JumpStart provides children with a wide variety of locations to explore. For instance, StoryLand invites preschoolers to read a story, teaching them to identify letters, words, numbers and shapes. First- and second-graders will enjoy AdventureLand, which challenges them to perform math, reading, art and critical thinking activities to save a lost island from furry critters called Punk Punks. Or children who love sports can learn math, shapes and more by playing football, basketball and volleyball at the JumpStart Stadium. Some other JumpStart destinations include MarineLand, FutureLand, Enchanted Sanctuary and Uncle Milton's Amazing ScienceLand.
Benefits
JumpStart's 3D world is very kid-friendly, with engaging graphics and fun themes. The expansive online environment offers enough variety to keep kids interested in the educational games. JumpStart's coin reward system also provides inspiration to continue learning in order to attain new accessories for the child's digital character.
Considerations
Access to the JumpStart 3D gaming world comes at a price. JumpStart charges a monthly subscription fee of $7.99. Parents may also purchase a one-year subscription for $74.99 or a lifetime pass for $149.99. Regardless of the pricing plan, membership covers up to six children in the same family and provides access to JumpStart, access to the MathBlaster website and four downloadable games.
