Cub Scout Halloween Games

In addition to learning about the outdoors, Cub Scout dens participate in games and activities together to help build camaraderie and instill values of teamwork and good sportsmanship. Around Halloween, entertain a den or a larger pack of Cub Scouts with traditional Halloween activities that reinforce Cub Scout values and allow the boys to simply have fun.
  1. Pumpkin Games

    • In addition to carving, pumpkins provide the inspiration for multiple Halloween games. Have Cub Scouts practice their knotting skills to create rope rings approximately 6 inches in diameter. Set up two or three pumpkins that are 5 inches in diameter or smaller and have the scouts take turns tossing the rings and trying to land them on the pumpkins. Place two or three large pumpkins on fence posts, paint a target on the pumpkin and have boys use their archery skills to shoot a bow and arrow at the target. Set up empty water bottles to look like bowling pins and use a round pumpkin to play a game of pumpkin bowling outdoors.

    Apple Games

    • Play a traditional game of bobbing for apples by filling a large plastic tub with water, placing apples inside and having boys try and grab apples using only their mouths. Pair boys up and have an apple toss, having each pair toss an apple back and forth, taking a step backwards after each complete toss. The pair to throw the apple the farthest wins. For older boys, give them a pocket knife or a vegetable peeler and see who is able to create the longest peel.

    Races

    • Hold a race where all boys must walk like Frankenstein's monster and see who reaches the finish line first. Pair boys up and have one from each pair drape a sheet over his head to mimic a ghost. The ghosts will race each other to the finish line while the partners call out directions. Create a giant pile of leaves and have boys race through the leaves to reach the finish line.

    Other Games

    • Place boys into teams and give each team a few roles of toilet paper. Time the teams as they use the toilet paper to transform one of the team members into a mummy. The winner is the team that covers the teammate the fastest. For another game, provide the boys with old clothes and straw and have them make scarecrows. Judge which team creates the best scarecrow. For a more traditional game, sit boys around the campfire and hold a ghost story competition. Name winners based on the most humorous and scariest stories.
