Kin Ball Activities

The Omnikin Kin-Ball sport is bouncing higher in popularity since it first originated in Canada. Designed to promote physical activity in cooperation with sportsmanship with less opposing physical contact, the enormous Kin-Ball is enjoyed by players of all ages. The official no-contact Kin-Ball sport is a time-regulated game for three teams of four players. Kin-Balls can be used for various other fair play and teamwork activities.
  1. Omnikin Kin-Ball

    • Separate players into three teams of three different colors (black, pink and grey). Each team requires four players. The defensive team forms a square around the Kin-Ball. This square of players also moves the ball, maintaining the square formation. The server yells, "Ominkin" and a color from the three color choices before hitting the ball. The team corresponding to the called color must get the ball before it touches the ground. If the team succeeds, that team becomes the square team and will serve to one of the two other teams. If the team fails to catch the ball, the other two teams each gain one point and the team forming the square serves again. The game is played in three sections, 15 minutes each. Game continues to seek a winner in case of a tie.

    Moon Ball

    • Designate a Kin-Ball as the moon. Gather other soft balls, such as beach balls, wiffle balls or plastic golf balls. The other balls represent meteors. Use sidewalk chalk to mark a grid or quadrant, placing various "planets" on lines you choose by drawing a circle for each one. Place the "moon" in the center of the quadrant with the players standing around the quadrant in a square. The object of the game is to throw or roll the meteor balls in order to roll it past the planet lines. The moon ball cannot be touched by any player and players must keep the moon within the grid boundaries. This game promotes throwing techniques and team play.

    Grab and Kick Kin-Ball

    • Arrange two teams with players within semi-circle alignments facing each other. Set a traffic cone between the two teams. Instruct players to sit in a grab-and-kick position. Two players from each team should stand behind their teams as catchers. The first team begins the game by kicking the ball or serving it over the other team, above head level. If the team catches the ball, no score is made. If the ball touches the floor, a point is made for the opposite team. Rotate catcher positions every five minutes.

    Kin-Ball Race

    • Separate players into two teams, each with their own Kin-Ball. Draw a line with sidewalk chalk or specify a line as the goal line. Give each team various soft balls to throw, such as wiffle balls, plastic golf balls or beach balls. Set each Kin-Ball in front of each team at exact distances from the goal line. Call out "Omnikin" and each team must race to see who can cause the Kin-Ball to roll across the goal line first.
