How to Brawl in Bakugan

"Bakugan Battle Brawlers" is an anime series about a fictional card game called Bakugan. This television show has spawned toys, video games and a 2008 card-battle board game of the same name. The board game Bakugan Battle Brawlers pits two to four players against each other and challenges them to brawl three bakugan each. The winner is the first to take three gate cards through successful brawls. Rather than being part of the game, brawling is the game. So learning this technique is vital if you aim to win.

Instructions

  1. Setting Up

    • 1

Sit directly opposite your opponent for a two-player game of Bakugan with the circular game board in the middle.

    • 2

Add two people at either side for a four-player game or sit in a triangle formation for a three-player game.

    • 3

Choose three gate cards from the gold, silver and copper categories and place them to your right. You can only have one card from each category. Place the cards face down so your opponents can't see them, just as you can't see their cards.

    • 4

Pick a green, red and blue ability card and place these face down to your right, too.

    • 5

Choose three bakugan and position them in the holes on the side of the game board.

    • 6

Place your gate card in the center of the board so that it is closer to your opponent than you in a two-player game. Your opponent's card will be joined and in line with it, as well as being closer to you.

    • 7

Set up the cards in a triangular shape for a three-player game, with the corners of the cards joined. Your card must be as far away from you as possible while still touching the other cards.

    • 8

Position the cards so that all the corners are joined together again for a four-player game. This should leave a square gap in the center.

    Brawling

    • 9

Wait your turn to roll your bakugan; the youngest player goes first and then it carries on in a clockwise order.

    • 10

Roll the bakugan at one of the playing cards. Move your bakugan to the slots on your left if you miss. Your bakugan will automatically open up if you hit the gate card.

    • 11

Proceed with the game until two bakugan are on one gate card. If they both belong to one player, one bakugan must be moved to another gate card. If not, it's time to brawl.

    • 12

Turn over the card and look at the numbers on the left side. Look for the color that matches that of your bakugan and remember this number. Read inside your bakugan for another number.

    • 13

Add the two numbers together to create your G-power total. If this is higher than your opponent's, you win; if not, you lose. In a tie situation the player who rolled the bakugan onto the card first is the winner.

    • 14

Move your bakugan to the slots on your left. If you won, you can also put the gate card on your left. Put down the next set of gate cards once the ones in the middle have been won.

    • 15

Play until one person has three gate cards in their used pile. If all your bakugan are used in the meantime, swap them back to your unused slots.

    Exceptions to the Rules

    • 16

Read the bottom of each gate card being used in a battle. If there is text on this card it will overrule the usual laws of the game. For example, it might say that the person with the lowest G-power wins.

    • 17

Take the gate card if you manage to land two of your bakugan on it and there are no other cards. Since you can't fight yourself and there is nowhere to move, you have automatically won.

    • 18

Study each ability card in your pile to see when it can be used and what it does; these can get you out of tricky situations. For example, if you have lost a brawl you can use an ability card that gives you a G-power boost to actually win the brawl. Move used abilities cards to the pile on your left.
