Modeling Clay Neighborhood
Designate a table that the neighborhood will go on after the kids are finished building their houses. Give children each a piece of paper, pencils, a small piece of cardboard and modeling clay. Have them all draw out their dream house. Tell them to build their house according to their drawing out of modeling clay. Once they are done, they can bring their house, on the piece of cardboard, to the "neighborhood." The game is finished when all of the houses are in the neighborhood. This is sure to bring about a unique neighborhood.
Blocks
Set up a designated area for the block house. Have children line up. At the back of the line, have a box full of blocks. Each child should have her own block chosen from the box. Each child will take his turn putting a block, one at a time, in the designated block house area. They will all take turns stacking a block at a time to build a house. This is similar to the game Jenga, except that instead of taking away blocks, they will be adding blocks. See how far the structure will get before it falls down.
LEGO Race
Put hundreds of LEGOs™ at the center of a table. Set a kitchen table for one minute at a time. Kids should sit all around the table, at an equal distance to the pile of LEGOs™. Yell out, "On your mark, get set, build!" The kids will create a house as fast as they can by pulling LEGOs™ from the pile. The object is to finish their house before the timer rings.
Fort House
On a large piece of paper, draw out a fantasy house as a group. Collect pillows, cushions, blankets, sheets, chairs and other "fort" building materials. According to the drawing, try to incorporate the building materials into the design. Continue until the house is finished. You can create as many houses this way as you'd like.
