How to Do a Madlib

Mad Libs, the fun, sentence-altering story game, is played by two or more players. This creative word game has been around for more than 50 years, invented by comedy writers while trying to come up with descriptive words on different project. One player tells the other player or players to come up with a noun, verb, adjective or adverb as the Mad Lib story dictates and then writes the answers down in the Mad Libs book. Once all blanks are filled in, the story is read aloud.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a fresh page in a Mad Libs book. Note the many blanks within the story that have parts of speech written underneath, such as adverb, adjective and noun.

    • 2

Locate the first blank within the story, and read the part of speech to the other player or players. For example, if the Mad Libs book has "noun" written under the blank, say "noun" to the other players.

    • 3

Write the word given by the other player or players in the first blank. If they did not give you a word of the proper part of speech, ask them again and give an example of, for instance, a noun.

    • 4

Continue reading the parts of speech aloud under every blank in the Mad Libs story. Write down the corresponding words given by the other player(s) in each blank.

    • 5

Read the story aloud, including the words from the filled-in blanks, when all the blanks contain words.
