Easy Activities
For an easy activity, give the children animal-themed coloring pages. Have the preschoolers color the animals using crayons. After they color the animals, they can cut each one out and glue it on a large piece of construction paper. Another idea is to have the children glue each animal on a wooden craft stick to make animal stick puppets. If you do not mind a mess, allow the children to use paint to color the pictures.
Toilet Paper Roll Activities
Give each child an empty toilet paper roll to make an animal. Print several types of animal faces and have the children cut out the faces. If the child is making a pig, have her glue and wrap the toilet paper roll in pink construction paper. Then she can glue a pig face on the top of the roll. For a frog, she can wrap and glue green construction paper to the roll. Have her cut out a frog face to glue at the top of the roll. For added decoration, have the children cut arms and legs out of the construction paper to glue on the roll.
Matching Activity
Print animal worksheets from the Internet. Websites like Kids Can Have Fun offer printable animal worksheets for preschoolers. Give each child a worksheet and have him cut out the animals. Ask the children to glue two matching animals side-by-side on a sheet of paper. Another idea is to have the children scatter the animals all over the page. Then have them draw a line to the matching animals.
Other Activities
Preschoolers can also use magazines to cut out pictures of animals and glue them on construction paper. Make the activity more difficult by assigning each child with a different animal. For example, assign cows to one child. She must cut out only cows to glue on a sheet of paper. Another idea is animal puzzles. Give each child an animal picture and have her cut it into five or six pieces. Tell her to mix up the pieces and hand her a sheet of paper. The preschooler must glue the animal back together on a sheet of paper.
