Easy Activities
Get the preschoolers started with some easy letter "O" activities. Print letter "O" coloring sheets from online for them to color and decorate. You can also give each preschooler a sheet of paper and have him freehand draw the letter "O." He can use markers, crayons and paint to color the letter. Find a variety of letter "O" sheets on the First School website. Help the preschoolers cut out a large "O" on card stock. Give them eyes, noses, mouths, ears, lips and other facial features to glue on the "O" to turn the letter into a face.
Songs
Teach your preschoolers the orange octopus song. They will sing the lyrics to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It." The song goes "Oh, I wish I was an orange octopus. Oh, I wish I was an orange octopus. Oh, I'd wave my lovely legs, and I'd splash in all the waves. Oh, I wish I was an orange octopus." For another song, have the preschoolers sing "Do you know the oval man, the oval man, the oval man? Do you know the oval man who likes to sing with me? Oh, he loves the letter O, the letter O, the letter O. Oh, he loves the letter O and likes to sing with me" to the "Muffin Man" tune.
Paper Crafts
The preschoolers can make crafts of items that start with the letter "O," such as an owl, orange, octopus, one (number) and otter. Print a picture of an owl and have the preschoolers tape it to a small brown paper sack. Tell them to tape the head to the flap of the sack and the body to the front of the sack to make an owl puppet. The preschoolers can use markers, stickers and stamps to decorate an orange.
Game Activities
Gather your preschoolers in a circle and select one player to go first. She must say a word that starts with the letter "O." Keep going around the circle, having the preschoolers think of words that start with "O." You can also print pictures of items that begin with "O." Print two of each picture and place the pictures face down on a table. The preschoolers can play a game of memory match, and the child who finds the most pairs wins the game.
