Fairy Tale Preschool Activities

Even though fairy tales are several centuries old, they still captivate the imaginations of young children. You can teach your preschoolers about important life lessons through a variety of fairy tales. Let them use their imagination and creativity through activities, games and crafts. Encourage the children to do activities inspired by fairy tale heroes and creatures.
  1. Easy Activities

    • You can print easy activities from websites like First School and ABC Teach. Print coloring pages, paper puppets, puzzles, word searches and dot-to-dot pages for the preschoolers to complete. They can use markers, colors and paint to color the pictures. For added fun, have the preschoolers add glitter to any princess fairy tale pictures by painting a thin layer of glue on the picture and sprinkling with glitter.

    Craft Activities

    • Boys can make crowns and the girls can make tiaras, like their favorite fairy tale prince or princess. Help the children cut cardboard into the desired shapes. The children can use paint, glitter, rhinestones, artificial gems, construction paper, glue, tape and markers to design their crown or tiara. For the story of the "Three Little Pigs," have the preschoolers use twigs, spaghetti noodles and red paper bricks (make using red construction paper) to build the houses. Another craft idea inspired by fairy tales includes making wands using wooden dowels, card stock and several craft supplies.

    Game Activities

    • Since most preschoolers know how to play classic party games, put a spin on some to create fairy tale games. For example, play a game of "Cinderella's Slipper" instead of "Hot Potato" by having the children pass a slipper instead of a potato. Play a game of "Pin the Apple in Snow White's Hand" or "Pin Jack on the Beanstalk" instead of "Pin the Tail on the Donkey." You can also allow the preschoolers to play fairy tale-themed board games like Pretty Pretty Princess and Tinkerbell Pardon My Pixie Dust.

    Other Activities

    • Play a game of fairy tale bingo by printing pictures of different fairy tale characters in the bingo square. Some picture examples include the Big Bad Wolf, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Goldilocks, the Three Bears, Rapunzel and the Gingerbread Man. Give each preschooler a card and bowl of candies to use as bingo markers. Hold up the pictures when you call out the names so they can mark their cards. The first preschooler to bingo wins a small prize. Create a game of memory by printing two of each fairy tale character and placing them face down on a table. The children can play a game of memory and the child who finds the most matches wins the game.
