Jurassic Park Games Good for a Ten-Year-Old

"Jurassic Park" has captivated fans' imaginations with a fantasy world where dinosaurs live in modern times. Written originally by Michael Crichton in 1990 and later made into a series of films, "Jurassic Park," like many other modern blockbusters, was marketed into a franchise. Once the film became a hit, companies produced toys, clothes and board and video games. These games would be fun and entertaining for a 10-year-old.
  1. Jurassic Park for the Super Nintendo

    • "Jurassic Park," released for the Super Nintendo in November 1993 and developed by Ocean, combines top-down and first-person gameplay. You play as Doctor Grant and wander around Jurassic Park trying to stop dinosaurs from breaking free from the parking and eventually escaping the island. As Doctor Grant, you must fight the loose dinosaurs using a variety of weapons, such as a cattle prod and grenade launcher. You have to complete objectives, such as turning the power back on to the electric fence, and find items to advance the gameplay, like key cards and night-vision goggles. Some scenes can be graphic, like when you get eaten by the Tyrannosaurus rex, but the overall feel of the game is tame and cartoonish and there is no gore or blood.

Jurassic Park for the Sega Genesis

    • "Jurassic Park," released for the Sega Genesis in August 1993 and developed by Blue Sky Software, uses side-scrolling gameplay. You play as Doctor Grant and again must stop the raging dinosaurs from eating the guests of Jurassic Park using various weapons. However, it isn't just dinosaurs that you must defeat, but the many security guards of Jurassic Park. Why the security guards are attacking you isn't explained. This game also allows you to play as a velociraptor, which changes your abilities and gives you a different perspective on the events. The graphics look more realistic than the Super Nintendo version, and though you can attack both dinosaurs and humans, the violence isn't graphic or gratuitous.

Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues

    • "Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues," released for the Super Nintendo in November 1994 and developed by Ocean, is another side-scrolling game that plays very similar to the Sega Genesis' "Jurassic Park," but with more cartoonish graphics. You assume the role of either Doctor Grant or Michael Wolfskin, and you must stop the takeover of Jurassic Park by a company named Biosyn.

    Jurassic Park Board Game

    • The "Jurassic Park" board game, released in 1993 and published by Milton Bradley, is playable for two to eight players ages 7 and up. Your task is to navigate the board while trying to avoid the dangerous dinosaurs and make it to the Visitor Center and safety. You must make it to the Visitor Center before the other players, and you can use cards to move faster, escape a dinosaur attack or cancel another player's turn. You also get to move the dinosaurs, like the Tyrannosaurus rex, velociraptors or spitters, on the board to attack other players.
