Unusual Fun Games for Kids

Many children enjoy playing games with other children to pass the time. Provide children with unusual games to help them spice up their game routine and continue challenging their creativity. Include indoor and outdoor games to provide fun no matter the weather conditions. Many games challenge creativity, memory and dexterity while others provide exercise.
  1. Chopstick Pass-Along

    • Chopstick Pass-along, as described on the Family Fun website, is a game in which children pass small objects to each other using a pair of chopsticks. The game helps increase dexterity and teaches children how to use chopsticks. To play the game, place several small objects on a plate. Give each child a pair of chopsticks. Instruct the children to pass objects to the right, starting with the largest item. A player who drops the object before passing it onto another player loses the game.

    Barnyard

    • As described on the Family Fun website, Barnyard teaches children about animal sounds while providing mild exercise. During Barnyard, one player acts as the farmer and the remaining players act as animals. The farmer whispers an animal to each player, assigning at least two people to be each animal. The farmer yells "Go" and players make sounds appropriate to their animal. Each player must find his partner or group so that all the players making the same animal sound are standing together. The first group to find all of its members wins.

    Mummy Wrap

    • Mummy Wrap utilizes toilet paper and reminds the players of ancient Egypt. To play Mummy Wrap, players divide into teams of two or three players. Each team uses one or two rolls of toilet paper to wrap a player as a mummy. The first team to completely wrap the player wins. After wrapping the players, have a mummy race in which the wrapped players compete to see who crosses the finish line first.

    Jousting Bananas

    • Jousting Bananas involves sword fighting with a banana. To play Jousting Bananas, give each player a banana. Two players face off and fight each other using the bananas. The first player to destroy his banana loses. To play another round of the game, give the players an additional banana. Avoid playing Jousting Bananas with especially young children or children prone to violence.

    Colors

    • Play Colors in the swimming pool. During colors, one child is "It." He stands on the ground next to the pool and calls out a series of colors with his back to the pool. Players decide on a specific color, such as blue or auburn, before the game starts and swim to the other side of the pool quietly when the "It" child calls their color. If the "It" child turns and sees a player in the middle of the pool, that player loses and becomes "It."
