How to Do the McDonald's Cafe Hand Game

Inspired by a television commercial, the McDonald's cafe hand game consists of a few simple gestures and hand moves. These moves been passed down to younger generations, who keep the game's legacy alive, even though the commercial only aired for a brief period during the 1980s. Like most hand-clapping games, it requires a partner to perform, and it is often accompanied by a jingle sung by both people to help keep the correct tempo while they clap.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold both hands straight out and press them together, palms inward, while facing your partner. Your fingertips should point straight forward to your partner. Move your hands left and then right twice, slapping the outside of your hands against your partner's as you move.

    • 2

Stop when the back of your left hand and the back of your partner's left hand are touching and hold them together. Lift your right hand and clap it against the left once.

    • 3

Reach up and clap both right hands together above your left hands, which should remain motionless. Clap once again on the palm of your left hand with your right hand.

    • 4

Reach underneath your left hand with your right hand, and grasp your partner's right hand as if to shake hands in a greeting. Hold this position while you move your left hand underneath the right and grasp your partner's left hand in the same position. Once more, drop your right hand below the left and grasp your partner's right hand.

Release the grasp with your right hand, slap the top of your leg with your left hand and lift it up to shoulder height. Snap the fingers on your left hand, then reach forward and clap your left hand together twice in a back and forth motion with your partner.
