Construction Worker Games for Preschoolers

Many preschoolers find construction workers and the job they do intriguing. When teaching preschoolers about types of construction work or planning a construction-themed birthday party, plan a few construction worker games for the children to play. Encourage the little ones to play along and try their best by awarding construction-themed party favors to game winners.
  1. Easy Games

    • Try an easy game by printing pictures of construction workers and writing different names on each picture. Write the same names on slips of paper and place them in a bowl. Place the pictures on the ground and have the children walk around while music plays. When the music stops, each child must stand on a picture. Draw a name from the bowl and the child standing on that picture wins a prize. Put a twist on the classic game "Hot Potato" by playing with a construction worker toy. The player who wins the game wins the toy.

    Tossing Games

    • Place orange construction cones five feet from a line. Make rings out of plastic coffee can lids by cutting the center out, suggests the Kids Party Paradise website. Tell the preschoolers they are construction workers and they must try to toss the rings onto the cones. Award a small prize to each player who rings a cone. For another tossing game, draw a road with orange construction cones on a poster board. Tape the board to the bottom of a box and cut a hole beside the road. Ask the preschoolers to try to toss plastic construction worker toys into the hole in the box.

    Relay Races

    • Create a relay race for the preschoolers by dividing them into two teams. Mark a starting line and a run to line 15 feet apart. Tell each team to line up at the starting line. Give the first player in each team line a bright orange or yellow safety vest and a hard hat. When you say "Go," the first player in each line must put on the hat and vest, race to the run-to line and race back to the starting line. The player will hand the hat and vest to the next player in line who must do the same thing. The first team to finish the relay race wins the game. For a variation, use a tool belt with plastic tools instead of the construction outfit or use both.

    Memory Games

    • Place construction worker-related items, such as toy hammers, wrenches, hard hats, small orange cones, safety vests and plastic toy construction workers, on a tray. Have all the preschoolers look at the tray of items and then take it out of the room. Award a prize to each preschooler who can remember an item from the tray. For another idea, when you take the tray out of room, remove one item. Bring the tray back in and the first child to tell you the item that is missing wins a prize.
