Dinosaur Egg Games

Tossing Games

• Draw a picture of a nest on a large poster board and tape it to the bottom of a cardboard box. Cut a hole out of the nest and backing cardboard, then lean the box up against a wall. Mark a line six feet from the box and have the children try to toss beanbag "eggs" into the nest. For added decoration, paint the beanbags to resemble dinosaur eggs, or hand make egg-shaped beanbags. It is also possible to use weighted plastic eggs in place of beanbags.

Relay Races

• For an easy relay race, mark a starting line and finish line, and divide players into two teams. Give the first two players in each team line a wooden spoon and a raw egg, or a hard-boiled egg for less mess. The players must race to the finish line and back balancing the "dinosaur egg" on their spoon. Players must hand off the spoon and egg to the next player in line, who must do the same thing until every team member has had a turn. For added fun, make dinosaur feet using large shoe boxes that children must wear while carrying the egg.

Memory Games

• Print duplicate pictures of different colored and patterned dinosaur eggs. Place the pictures face down on a table and have the children play a game of memory, in which they are allowed to flip two cards in search of a pair. If a child finds a pair, she can go again. The child who finds the most pairs wins the game.

  For another memory game, fill a tray with 10 different plastic "dinosaur" eggs and tell the children to look at the eggs closely. Take the tray out of the room and remove one or more eggs. When you bring the tray back in the room, the player who guesses the color of the missing eggs wins a prize.

Scavenger Hunt Games

• Hide plastic or hard-boiled eggs all over the play area. Tell the children they must collect as many "dinosaur eggs" as they can. Give each child a small paper sack and have him hunt for the eggs. The player who finds the most eggs wins a prize. For a more difficult game, number the eggs and call out a number. The child who finds the correct numbered egg first wins. For younger children, tell each child to find only a certain number of eggs to ensure that each finds at least some.
