Witch Charades
Provide girls with a selection of witches' hats from a costume shop and other witchy accessories such as brooms, a large pot to act as a cauldron and black clothes. Write down the titles of different films, books and movies that feature witches using a separate card for each title, then give a card to each girl. The girls must then take turns dressing up as a witch using the props provided and acting out the title on the card without using words in a game of spooky charades. The others have to try and guess the title she is acting out.
Ghostly Guessing
Provide each girl with a sheet with eye holes cut out so she can dress up as a ghost. One girl should be "it" and not dress up. Once all the girls are covered up, tell them to run around the room until they are all in different places. The girl who is "it" must then go up to each "ghost girl" and ask them in turn. "Whose ghost are you?" The other girl should reply, using a funny voice to try and disguise her true identity. "If you guess my name right, you can set me free". If the girl who is it does manage to guess the name correctly she must take the ghost costume and the girl who was the ghost then becomes "it." If she guesses incorrectly she must continue being "it."
Vampire Cloak
Give the girls false vampire teeth from a joke shop and white face paint so they can give themselves a vampire pallor. Give all the girls a black vampire "cloak" except one. You can either buy or hire these from a costume shop or use black plastic trash liner. The girl without the cloak should stand at one end of the garden or playground and the other girls at the other end. When you tell them to "go," all the girls should try and run to the opposite end of the garden or playground without being caught by the girl without the cloak. Whoever is caught must hand over her cloak and she becomes "it" for the next game.
Spooky Trump Cards
For a Halloween version of paper, scissors, stone, draw pictures of witchy accessories like black cats, fiery cauldrons and flying broomsticks on postcard-sized pieces of paper. Cats eat from the cauldron, so trumps it; the broomstick brushes away the cat, so trumps it; and the cauldron burns the broomstick, so trumps it. Have each girl dress up as a witch and give her a small bag. Give each girl a card to place under her hat. They should then run around until you shout "freeze." Each girl should show her card to the girl nearest her. The girl with the trump card should collect the other girl's card in her bag, and the girl whose card has been trumped is out the game. The winner is the girl who collects the most cards.
