Games on the Ways That Animals Change & Grow

Playing a game that takes you through a tour of the life-cycles of animals is an efficient way to learn about animals and their babies. Animals change and grow throughout their lives, just like humans. Many baby animals look like their mothers but some animals change form completely. There are games about animals that can be found in your backyard and animals that live in different parts of the world.
  1. Create Your Own Animal

    • A creative way to learn about how animals change is to create your own animal. The online game Make Your Own Animal can be found at Switch Zoo (See Resources). You click on an animal and use the shape to create your own animal by moving the mouse over an icon. A pop-up window appears and you can select a new head, tail, and leg to your animal. You can build the most amazing animals and watch how they change and grow. There is a wide selection of animals from which to choose such as bear, cheetah and rhino. Add some interesting facts about the different animals that you used to create your animal and write a story about your the amazing animal. You can also create your own puzzle by selecting different body parts. Choose the number of pieces in the puzzle, 6, 12, 18, or 24. The puzzle pieces change before your eyes and you watch the animal take shape while your drag the puzzle pieces.

    Matching Game

    • Play the online game Digger and his Gang and match baby animals with their parents. The baby animals are in the zoo and the piglet, tadpole, chick and caterpillar are wondering who their parents are. A dog tells you if you matched the right animals and if not you can try again. You can continue to visit other animals in the zoo and you can try to feed some animals. You find this game at BBC (see Resources).

    Baby Animals

    • Play the online game Baby Animals in Asia and help animal mothers find their lost babies. The baby animals are hiding on a boat and their mothers are standing on land looking for them. Click on little windows on the boat to reunite the babies with their mothers. If you find the matching baby, it jumps down to its mother. If you click on the wrong baby, it will tell you what its parent look like. When the right baby and mother is united, the baby will tell you something about its life. In this game you will learn about pandas, orangutans, tigers, elephants, pythons and camels. You find the game at Time For Kids (see Resources).

    Life Cycles

    • Butterflies go through metamorphism, which means that they change their body form completely. Play the game Lifecycles at Sheppard Software (see Resources) to see how a butterfly changes and grows. You drag the stages of the butterfly to a huge lifecycle. In the middle of the lifecycle, you can watch the butterfly drop its eggs on a leaf and see when the caterpillar crawls out of its egg. When you have completed the game the butterfly comes out of the chrysalis and flutters around. At the same site, you can also play a game with frogs' lifecycle. Watch the tadpoles swim out of the egg and develop into froglets. When the lifecycle is completed, the frog jumps out of the water. Beautiful animation makes these games an exciting learning experience.
