Panning for Gold
Panning for gold is one game you can set up ahead of time to keep the girls busy. Simply fill up a small pool with water and some sand. Bury one gold nugget along with multicolored rocks purchased at your local craft store into the sand. Then place some tin pie plates nearby. When the girls arrive, have them pan for gold by lifting the sand with the pans in the water to search for the gold nugget among the colored stones. Whoever finds the gold nugget wins the game.
Screening for Gold
Screening for gold is another game to keep the girls entertained. For this game, you will need to encase a regular window screen inside a wooden frame. You can either purchase a small window screen to fit into a pre-made picture frame, or, if you are handy, take four pieces of wood, cut to fit around the screen to make a frame. Then, place lots of colored rocks with several gold pieces into sand into a small pool with water. Have the girls take turns using the screen to sift through the sand to look for gold. Whoever finds the most gold is the winner.
Using Denim
Another gold miner party activity is making denim crafts. Denim was originally worn by Levi during the California Gold Rush. You can make small denim pillows or other denim items prior to the party, or purchase pre-made ones beforehand, and then have the girls decorate their pillows or other denim items with fabric paints, rhinestones and other fabric-friendly notions.
Treasure Hunt for Gold
Make a treasure map, based upon some of the old cities from the California Gold Rush, using landmarks in your own house and backyard. Hide some gold items, such as gold nuggets, gold tone jewelry, gold wrapped candy or goldfish crackers. Whoever finds the most gold items wins the game.
