Scary Maze Ideas

If you can think of one scary maze idea, the next person can probably think of another. There are likely thousands of ideas a group of people could come up with to make a maze scary. You will most likely find scary mazes popping up around the time of Halloween.
  1. Hollywood Themes

    • Consider giving your scary maze a Hollywood theme. There are countless horror films from which to get ideas and many popular movies that most people would recognize and enjoy. You could make a scary maze based on a movie like "The Grudge," "Scream," "Hostel" or even a famous children's book made into a movie, such as "Alice in Wonderland."

    Famous Serial Killers

    • A maze that entertains the prospect of bumping in to a famous serial killer from history as you walk through the labrynth would frighten many. You could use a character that most everyone knows like Jack the Ripper, the Zodiac Killer or the Boston Strangler. Dress up an actor in a costume and have him scare maze patrons as they walk through it.

    Atmosphere

    • A good scary maze will have a spooky feel due to the atmosphere created by such details as music, lighting and odd noises. Music with low tones will help. Not being able to see very far in front of yourself due to artificial fog and low lighting can add to the creepy factor of a scary maze. Noises in the dark, such as crows cawing or a baby crying, help to enhance a creepy atmosphere.

    Claustrophobic Walkways

    • Having tight, small paths and walkways can induce a feeling of claustrophobia and using such design elements in a maze can truly creep people out. Coming around a corner and seeing some sort of scary dummy in a confined space can lead to cries of terror. You can create a feeling of claustrophobia even in a wider walkway if a high wall lines the maze path.
