Fun Scout Games

The Boy Scouts of America was created in 1910 and the Girl Scouts of the USA was created in 1912. The scout organizations' goal is to educate and create responsible citizens. Through the use of fun and educational activities, scouts -- who range in age from five to 17 -- are taught to become future leaders.
  1. Scramble

    • Teach kids the importance of teamwork by playing a game that will have all the players scrambling. You need two teams to play the game. Each team selects one person to face off against the other team; blindfold the team representative. Lead both players to the center of a play area and set a ball on the ground between them. When directed, the kids try to kick the ball to their designated goals. The sidelined teammates holler directions to help their teammate find the ball and sink it into the goal. An alternative to kicking the ball: carry it to the goal.

    Medical Relay Race

    • Reinforce the emergency skills the scouts have learned by dividing the kids into teams and conducting a medical relay race. Write injuries on a dummy or volunteer. Give each scout team a bag of medical gear necessary to assist the injured person. Each scout picks one injury on the person to bandage, splint or care for. Create head wounds that need to be bandaged, broken limbs to be splint and snake bites that need tourniquets applied. The team who correctly "fixes" the wounds first wins.

    Predators vs. Prey

    • Empower kids with the importance of observation by playing the predators vs. prey game. Set clear boundaries and give each scout a watch and the time the game will end. Divide the kids into two groups. Name one group "predators" and the other "prey." Tell the prey to hide in the delegated play area. After 10 minutes, the predators begin to hunt prey. Both the predators and the prey need to write the names and exact locations where they find the other. If the predators fail to find prey, they go hungry and the prey wins. However, if the predators find prey, they win.

    Balloon Smash

    • Kids won't realize they are being taught the value of discipline and obedience while playing the balloon smash game. Slip an order inside a balloon, then fill the balloons with helium. The orders could say "jump on one foot while singing a song" or "tell a funny joke." Tie a balloon to each kid's arm and tell him to take care of it until you tell the group to form a circle. Once in a circle, randomly select a child to enter the circle, pop the balloon and perform the order.
