Things You'll Need
Instructions
Cut the piece of 1/2 inch plywood into a 16 inch by 24 inch rectangle.
Make a mark at the center of each end at 8 inches.
Cut a triangle at each end centered on the marks measuring 1 1/2 inches tall with a 1 1/2 inch base. These triangle-shaped holes will serve as the goals at either end. You can also drill round holes between 1 inch and 1 1/2 inches to serve as the goals, or a square with sides between 1 inch and 1 1/2 inches. The shape and size of the goal will determine the level of difficulty in scoring.
Fasten the 1 by 2 inch strips of wood to the outside of the 16 inch by 24 inch playing surface to serve as outside "boards." Use wood glue and finish nails to attach the boards.
Measure the center line for the nickel hockey board at 12 inches. Draw a straight line with the red marker width-wise. Also measure the center at 8 inches length-wise, but do not draw a permanent red line lengthwise. Where these two lines intersect is the exact center of the board.
Drill a 1/4-inch hole directly in the center of the board. Drill two additional holes 2 inches from center in each direction along the red center line. Drill two more holes 2 inches from center in the direction of each goal. Drill a hole on both sides of each goal 1/2 inch from the edge of the goal and at least 1/2 inch from the back wall.
Insert the nine 1/4-inch dowels into the nine holes and fasten them with wood glue. The center of the board should now look like a diamond shape formed by four dowels with another dowel directly in the center. The other four dowels form the "posts" of the two goals at either end.
Erase or sand off any pencil marks and coat the board with clear varnish to make the nickel slide more easily and to keep the red marker center line from smearing.
