Wild Monkey Games

Many children find wild monkeys intriguing and enjoy watching them on television and learning about them in classrooms. Whether you are planning a wild monkey-themed birthday party or teaching your students about monkeys, you can create a few games to keep them entertained. With a few monkey game ideas and some monkey-themed prizes, you have everything you need to bring the jungle to your kids.

Scavenger Hunts
- Print monkey tracks on sheets of paper. Place the monkey tracks on the floor leading to different monkey-themed prizes. For another scavenger hunt, use bananas for the children to hunt. Use small plastic bananas to hide all over the play area. Plastic bananas are available online and at many craft stores in bulk. Give the children a small paper sack to collect the bananas. Award a prize to the child who finds the most bananas. For an added bonus, draw a small star on some of the bananas and award a small prize to the children who find those bananas.
Wild Monkey Contests
- Allow the children to watch a video of monkeys, so they can listen to how the monkeys sound. Have each child give his best monkey impression. The children can try to act and sound like a monkey. Award a prize to the most realistic sounding monkey. For an added bonus, award prizes to the funniest, loudest and squeakiest monkey sounds.
Barrel of Monkey Games
- Give each player a barrel of monkeys and set a timer for one minute. The players must hold the monkeys in one hand and use the other hand to loop the monkeys together. The player with the longest strand of monkeys when the timer goes off wins the game. For a variation, play this game in pairs. Have each child select a partner. One player will hold a monkey in each hand. When you say, "Go," the partner must loop the monkeys together as fast as possible. The team with the most looped monkeys wins the game.
Relay Race
- Mark a starting line and run-to line 25 feet apart. Divide the children into two teams and have each team line up at the starting line. Give the first player in each team line a banana. When you say, "Race," the players must place the bananas between their knees. The players must race to the run-to line and back to the starting line to hand the banana off to the next player in line. Each player must do the same thing. The first team to finish the relay race wins the game. For a variation, have the players place the banana under their chins instead of between their knees.
