Instructions

  1. Preparation

    • 1

Find or cut 3 feet of thin, smooth rope. Stuff the middle part of the rope up your jacket sleeve. The rope needs to be relatively straight and untangled in your sleeve so it comes out smoothly as the child pulls on it during the trick.

    • 2

Leave about 6 inches of both ends of the rope out in your hand. Move one end of the rope to hang over the top of your hand by your thumb and the other end to hang out of the other side, the bottom of your hand. Close your hand, hold it upright, and try to position and grip the ends of the rope so they seem like just one small piece of rope to the audience.

    • 3

Practice the trick. Pull the top end of the rope out of your hand without allowing the bottom end of the rope to move. It needs to appear that the rope is magically getting longer as they pull it. That means the rope needs to come smoothly out of your hand and sleeve without anyone being able to see anything. This will probably take some practice.

Perform the trick before a child or audience.
