One for You and One for Me
To play this game, use things like buttons, raisins, crayons or marbles. Make a small pile with any of these things, and ask your toddler to divide the pile into little containers, saying "one for you and one for me." You can include another little friend or a stuffed animal into this game, so that the child can further divide the items. Aside from turn-taking and sharing, this game also introduces kids into the world of numbers.
Hide and Seek
This is an outdoor game that you can play with your toddler and other kids. In this tag game, one of the players becomes "it." The other players should hide. When the game begins, the player who is "it" counts, while the others hide. After counting, "it" can try and find the other hidden players. This teaches the toddler to count, solve problems and take turns.
Basketball Indoors
Make sure that you steer clear of any breakable things before you begin to play. You can make plenty of balls using newspaper. Let the toddlers practice with the balls for a while to see who can throw the ball the farthest. You can use a wastepaper basket a short distance away as the goal. This improves the eye-hand coordination of the toddler.
Hopscotch
This is a game to let 2-year-olds learn about rules and how to abide by them. In this game, you can draw and number eight or more squares. The kids then jump through these numbered squares according to a sequence determined by which square a thrown marker lands on. This game improves the motor skills and muscular activities of the kid. It also brings more balance and coordination throughout the body.
