Backpack Scavenger Hunt
A backpack scavenger hunt can be done individually or in a small group/groups. Make sure each backpack has a list of items to find and a map of where to find the items. When each item is found, it should be placed in the backpack, so make sure the items for this scavenger hunt are small enough to fit in a backpack.
The hunt can be a competition of who finds all the items first, or if done in one group, once all the items are found the game is over.
Twenty Questions
Put three to five items in the backpack at a time. You can choose one of the items and have the children ask 20 questions to guess what it is, or if the children are older, they can take turns choosing the items. The children should ask yes or no questions to the person who knows what the item is. Examples of questions are, "Is it soft?" and "Is it round?" The goal is to guess what the object is within 20 questions.
Packing for a Trip Game
Pick out a few different events one would need to pack for, such as a camping trip, or a trip to the park, beach or snow. Print out five to 10 images for each trip and lay them out on a table. Ask the children, "What do I need to pack for (particular place)?" As each item is correctly named, place it in the backpack. When all the correct items are identified, move on to the next trip.
Mystery Prizes
A backpack can hold small prizes for other children's games, such as Red Light, Green Light; Mother May I; or Simon Says.
