Halloween Games for Pre-K

Though preschoolers may not know the origins of Halloween, nor why people are dressed up as witches and ghosts, they can still get into the Halloween spirit during a class party. Besides the decorations and food, give preschoolers plenty of things to do during the event by planning some games.
  1. Ghost Hunt

    • Before the game, gather up some small lollipops and wrap a piece of tissue paper around the "globe" of the pop. Tape the tissue paper right below the globe, allowing some fringe of the tissue paper to extend past the lollipop handle. Make several of these and hide them around the party space. Gather all of the preschoolers and tell them that the room is filled with "ghosts" and that they have to find them first to get rid of them. The player with the most lollipops after 10 minutes wins the game.

    Spider Race

    • Make spider legs for this game by stuffing two pairs of stockings together with old clothing. Glue one pair of the stockings to the front of a belt and the other pair to the back of the belt. Make two sets of spider legs. To play, gather the kids outside and line them up into two teams. Give the first players in each team a set of spider legs. They should tie the belt around their waists and get on all fours with their stomachs facing up, toward the sky. When you say "Go," the players race each other from the starting point to the finish line and back, handing the spider legs off after each turn. The first team back in original formation wins.

    Weaving a Web

    • Gather all the kids in a circle and hand one of them a black ball of yarn. She should take the tip of the string and lightly throw the ball to any other player in the group. This player should hold onto his section of the yarn before throwing it to yet another player. Keep throwing the ball around until you have used up all the yarn. Have the kids slowly place the yarn they hold on the ground to display a black spider web they have created.

    How Many Seeds?

    • See how well your preschoolers can estimate with this game. After you have finished gutting some pumpkins, place all of the pumpkin seeds into 10 separate, clear containers. Make it so that some containers have a lot of seeds while others have very few. Count all of the seeds before you begin the game. Gather the kids around the containers and ask them which container holds the most seeds, which holds the least and so on. Whoever guesses the most answers correctly wins and gets a small pumpkin to take home.
