Country Games for Boys

When planning a western party or social gathering for a group of boys, be sure to include some country games. Give the boys a chance to kick up their heels and earn western-themed prizes, such as toy sheriff badges, bandannas and cowboy hats. Some planning, country game ideas and a few supplies are all you need to get started creating entertaining games for the little buckaroos.
  1. Lasso Games

    • Cut a rope into 2-foot pieces and give one piece of rope to each boy. Tell the boys they must make a lasso by creating a loop at the end of the rope. The first boy to make a lasso wins a prize. For another lasso game, place 2-liter bottles on the ground and fill the bottoms with sand (for stability). Have the boys stand along a line 10 feet from the bottles and use their lassos to try to ring a bottle. Award a small prize to each boy who rings a bottle with his lasso.

    Shooting Games

    • Take several empty cans and place them on a fence or table. Have all the boys line up six feet from the cans. Give the first boy in line a water gun and set a timer for one minute. See how many cans each boy can shoot down with the water gun in one minute. The player who knocks down the most cans in one minute wins. For another game, divide the players into two teams. Give the first player in line a water gun. Place 10 cans on the fence for each team. Each player must shoot down a can before passing the water gun to the next player in line. The first team to knock down all their cans wins.

    Tossing Games

    • Put a hat upside-down on the ground and mark a line 10 feet from the hat. Have all the boys stand side by side on the line. Give each boy five beanbags to try to toss into the hat. Award a prize to each boy who lands a beanbag in the hat. For a variation, use cowboy boots and have the boys try to toss the beanbags into them.

    Memory Games

    • Place cowboy-related items, such as a cowboy hat, pair of boots, rope, bandanna, spurs and chaps, on the floor. Have all the boys look at the items and leave the room. When they leave the room, remove one item from the floor and hide it. Have the boys come back in the room. The first boy to name the missing item wins a prize. For a variation, have the boys look at the items for one minute and then go into another room. Give each boy a sheet of paper and have him write down as many items as he can remember. The player who remembers the most cowboy items wins.
