Easy Facepaint Ideas

Most children enjoy having their faces painted. Creating your own designs is one way of expressing your artistic talents. Face painting is ideal for social occasions such as fancy dress parties and Halloween, but can also be enjoyed in simple dress-up games. Most children have active imaginations that promote fresh ideas. Any adult with a basic face painting kit can bring those concepts to life.
  1. Butterfly

    • Use a sparkling white paste to cover the eye and upper cheek area to provide a blending surface that accentuates overlaying colors. Use a soft sponge to create wing shapes. Cover the eyebrow area and the upper cheeks with bright pink colors to create the effect before filling in around the eyes with yellow to produce the center of the wings. Use a soft, round brush to create scalloped edges around the wings in bright purple. Use the same colors to draw antennae on the forehead and small spots down the nose for the body.

    Tiger

    • Tigers are popular face paint creations among children. Cover above and below the mouth with thick, white blocks using a sponge. Take a clean sponge and fill out the remainder of the face with yellow. Use a third sponge to blend a deep orange into the circumference of the yellow paint. Use white paint on a soft, rounded brush to draw bushy white eyebrows, a bushy white moustache and white stripes on the cheek and forehead. Add black stripes to the same areas, and use a cotton bud to dapple on some black whiskers. Use any remaining black face paints to outline the eyebrows and mustache.

    Pirate

    • Only two colors are needed to create a pirate's face. Use a soft stipple brush covered in black face paint to dab stubble around the chin and below the nose. Take a soft, rounded brush dipped in black paint to thicken one eyebrow, and use a sponge to draw a large patch on the other eye in the same color. Create an orange triangle on the forehead with a sponge, starting wide on one side before tapering inwards to a point at the other side to create a bandanna. To finish, draw the eye patch string and creases in the bandanna with a cotton bud dipped in black paint.

    Dalmatian

    • Cover the face with a white base color on a sponge but leave one eye untouched. Add black paint to a new sponge and draw a large black patch over the untouched eye and the upper part of the cheek. Use assorted shapes around the eye for maximum effect. Thicken the other eyebrow with black paint and draw random black spots over the rest of the face. Add black to the bottom of the nose. Outline the area above the lips to create a poochlike face before drawing black whiskers. Paint a sloppy red tongue hanging below the mouth. Use black paint on a cotton bud to detail it.
