Flag Games for Children

Children are always looking for new games to enjoy, whether the games are educational or active. Flag games cover both avenues. Children can learn about the country flags of the world through guessing games and can also get outdoors to enjoy flag-related activities. Additionally, certain games give kids a chance to get creative and design flags of their own.
  1. Guess the Flag

    • "Guess the Flag" is a colorful, interactive way for children to learn more about the countries of the world. Kids can design dozens of flags representing different countries or print them from templates. On the back of each flag, write some key facts about each country including capital city, population and main resources. Children pair up and take turns guessing the country based on the flag design and country's information. This game helps kids delve into their creative sides in addition to the educational benefits.

    Flag Tag

    • Sometimes children just need to release some energy. Flag tag gets kids outdoors and active. This game uses elements from another popular childhood activity, freeze tag. In flag tag, children split into two teams. Each child wears a belt with colored flags hanging from it. When the game starts, kids run around trying to pull flags from the belt of their opponents. When your flag is pulled, you must stand in place until someone from your team tags you back into the game. The game goes on until one team pulls the flags from every member of the other team.

    Flag Football

    • Flag football uses the same belt of flags from flag tag but incorporates the sport of football. Children play flag football the same as regular football, only instead of tackling, kids pull flags from the belts of their opponents. You can play to a certain score, for a specific time period or until each team has an equal number of opportunities on offense. Flag football is another outdoor game full of exercise that also teaches kids the importance of teamwork.

    Capture the Flag

    • Capture the flag is an active game that taps into children's creative and strategic sides. First, form two teams, and ask each team to design its own flag. The flag should be big enough to place on a stick that will be planted in the ground. Once outside, teams put their flags in the ground somewhere on their sides of the playing field. The goal of the game is to capture the other team's flag and bring it to your side of the field without getting caught. Players are caught if they are tagged by an opponent and can only re-enter the game if they are tagged by a teammate. In addition to being active, children learn to work together to achieve success.
