Clothing Games for Boys

Although girls stereotypically take a greater interest in fashion than boys, many boys enjoy playing dress-up or clothing games. Incorporate dress-up games into boys' parties, adapting them to suit the theme of the party. Prepare for the games by gathering together a selection of clothing in advance. Search out items in thrift stores or borrow items from friends and family.
  1. Dress-up Relay

    • Divide the boys into teams of four to six players. Provide an oversized dress-up costume for each team by raiding the closets of dads or older brothers. Give each team a dress shirt, a tie, a pair of pants and a hat in a box. Have the teams line up at a starting line. At the signal to start, the first player from each team races to the box of clothes and puts them on. He then runs to a chair placed further away, picks up a newspaper and pretends to read it, before racing back to the box and taking the clothes off again. He returns to the back of his line and the next team member takes his turn. The first team to finish wins.

    Design a T-Shirt

    • Provide plain white T-shirts for boys to decorate with fabric markers or paints. Place thick cardboard or newspaper inside the shirts to prevent colors from bleeding through. Alternatively, prepare different colors of fabric dye and show boys how to knot T-shirts to make tie-dye patterns. Let the boys take their shirts home as party favors.

    Superhero Costume Hunt

    • This dress-up scavenger hunt is sure to entertain boys while they use up energy racing to find the items they need. Before the party, assemble the items of clothing needed to make a simple superhero costume for each boy. Include a cape, a mask and a brightly-colored pair of undershorts the boys can wear over their pants (inexpensive large white undershorts dyed a few days before the party work well). Hide the items around the house or yard. Have a race for the boys to find a costume and put it on before all the others.

    Costume Chaos

    • Gather as many different boys' costumes -- such as an astronaut, cowboy, pirate, dinosaur, king or doctor -- as you can before the party. Mix up all the items in a heap. Divide the boys into two teams. Write the names of the costumes on slips of paper and place them in a hat. Have one boy from each team pick out a slip, then scramble to find the right costume and put it on first. Have the fastest boy from each round score points for his team.
